The present article is an extract of a thesis submitted for the earning of the doctorate degree in Mathematics Education. It covers aspects and areas, which due to their innovative and polemical character, have often been neglected. It concentrates on the university, a level apparently considered taboo. The empirical part of the research was conducted at the University of the State of São Paulo (Unesp), Bauru campus, in a Calculus Course for future teachers of Mathematics. The study also shows the “teacher-researcher in Mathematics Education”, her professional preparation, as well as her reflexions as she takes her own classroom as the theme of investigation.
