This article situates in the field of the history of the school subjects and intends to present some of the most relevant theoretical contributes to the research in the field, concerning, in particular, the history of school mathematics. The text also intends to describe the main documental sources that can be used in this context and to contribute, in dialog with similar texts, to a review of the existing investigation.
