Câmara de Lobos is a poor village of the Autonomous Region of Madeira where is a fishing community with their own usages with weak school results. In this article we attempt to identify knowledge and processes used in the construction of boats in the fishing community of Câmara de Lobos and discuss them in respect to what elementary school mathematics is, looking for connections that may in the future be available to be utilized in the classroom.
