This paper reports on application of a didactical material to teach Combinatory Analysis to Degree Mathematics Teaching. The material was developed using a problem-solving methodology and according to a pedagogical proposal in which mathematical knowledge is obtained as a balance of logical and intuitive aspects. The research focused on the evaluation of the didactic and pedagogical potential of using such material. Using a qualitative research — a case study — the teaching material was used in a teaching practice course of a Brazilian public university. The experience allowed students (future teachers) to develop of content through an alternative methodology. The results showed the experience provided students with an opportunity for learning and reflecting and favored a change in attitude regarding the way they faced teaching: from a strictly technical approach to a more meaningful one, emphasizing knowledge building. We believe such experiences may reflect positively on how the students will act in their classrooms (as teachers).
