In this paper we analyze the following concepts related to the two-dimensional data distribution in twelve Spanish high school mathematics textbooks: two-dimensional statistical variable and distribution; marginal and conditional frequency and distribution. For each of these concepts we analyze its location, way of presentation; and use along the lesson. We also examine the tabular and graphical representations of the two-dimensional distribution. We conclude that the presentation is sometimes incomplete or partly incorrect; other times non equivalent concepts are used as synonymous. This information can help the teacher when selecting the textbook and to predict the students’ difficulties when using the book in this topic.
