This research focuses on mathematics education and took place on a 3rd grade class of Primary School. The aim is to study spatial visualization and the relationship between its development and the construction of mathematical concepts by children. Specifically, the research had the following objectives: a) to produce and implement a proposition of intervention in order to develop skills in spatial visualization in Primary School pupils; b) to identify and analiyse the effects of the implementation of this proposition in the learning of mathematics. For the methology, several instruments were used for data collection. These data are of qualitative and quantitative nature: written reports of work sessions with children and with the class teacher; tests and worksheets solved by the children. For the data analisys two non-parametric statistic tests were used as well together with the description of the work done during the sessions. Generally, considering the research aims I was able to conclude that the pupils develop spatial visualization by solving the problem that integrated the proposition of intervention. The pupils involved in the experiment had achieved better learning of mathematical concepts.
