Abstract

Th is text analyzes the curricular evolution of mathematics in primary education, based in information sources of programs and educational articles published in the pedagogical press. Refering to a long period, the analysis, allows us to understand how, between 1882 and 1974/1975, there were changes in the designation of the discipline, its contents and methods and also in the didactical materials. Arithmetic dominated the curricular view and she joined, gradually, the Metric system and Geometry, until the term Mathematic designate the discipline, in the curricular programs for 1974/1975. The methodological guidelines are translated into Instructions, Observations, Goals and Suggestions, revealing the dominant pedagogical models and advising school practices. Moreover, the dimension of teacher praxis expressed with particular vitality in the pedagogical press, where teachers discuss issues that concern them most in their professional lives.
