Abordagem exploratória com representações múltiplas na aprendizagem dos números racionais: um estudo de desenvolvimento curricular

This paper presents the preparation and implementation of a teaching unit for grade 5 pupils on the concept and representation of rational numbers, the comparison and sorting of rational numbers and equivalence of fractions, based on an exploratory approach with multiple representations, aligned with current curriculum guidelines. The way the unit unfolded and the results regarding pupils’ learning support, overall, the general teaching and learning conjecture. It was noted the need to continue working with improper fractions, and the density of the rational numbers. Some possible alternatives to investigate in the future are suggested, regarding the representation on number line, the approach to the equivalence of fractions, and work in the ration meaning of rational numbers.
