This research intended to identify how the recommendations of the Modern Mathematics Movement (MMM) were built and spread among pedagogical manuals used by primary teachers in Brazil and in Portugal. Specifically, this article tried to verify how were processed the suggestions for the pedagogical practices in order to ensure the transmission of the MMM’s proposals through the usage of Cuisenaire’s method. The works Matemática dinâmica com números em cores (1961), published in Brazil, and Didática Especial (1963), published in Portugal, were chosen to this discussion, since they emphasized the usage of such method. This way it is possible affirm that the works elected for this analysis can been seen as publishers and defenders of the usage of Cuisenaire’s method in the Modern Mathematics learning.
